The Legend of Romulus and Remus
According to the Italian legends, about 2780 years ago, the shepherd Faustulus, when crossing a forrest near the Palatine hill, saw the shape of a wolf near a cave. When he stopped and made his way through the undergrowth, moving slowly, intrigued by the appearance of the animal, he realized that it was not a wolf but a woman dressed in the skin of a wolf. He did neither know how to explain that apparition, in a place he knew so well, nor whether she was an ancient goddess or a mortal ... Next to her, two boys were playing with wooden weapons. The female wolf, actually an Etruscan priestess, looked at him: a fleeting exchange of glances, she greeted the shepherd with a seraphic gesture and vanished into the trees. From that moment on, Faustulus decided to take care of the two children, Romulus and Remus, the first of which was to become the founder of Rome.
