The night of the Krampus

Krampus are folkloric figures from Alpine traditions, particularly in Austria, Germany, Hungary, and parts of north-east Italy. They are demonic creatures that accompany Saint Nicholas during the Christmas season. While Saint Nicholas rewards good children, Krampus punishes the naughty ones. They are depicted as beings with horns, fur, and fangs, often carrying chains or whips. The figure of Krampus is tied to purification rituals and midwinter celebrations.
